lyrics

'Rue Saint-Denis'

The snow starts to fall
On this balcony
Over Rue Saint-Denis, Paris, France
It sways in the wind
Like the veil of some bride
Who is dancing her very first dance
And it touches my skin
And then melts away
Like mercury grasped in my hands

And then I say I might jump
And you say I’m not the type
That I’ve never been chasing those highs
But maybe I like the comedown
Maybe I’m just here for the fall

Now the snow is increasing
While down in the streets
The two wings begin to collide
And later this evening
I’ll turn on the T.V.
To see how many people have died
And I stretch out my arm
Through the cast iron frame
Into this wilderness of white

And I just might jump
Though I don’t want to die
You know I’ve never been chasing those highs
But maybe I like the comedown
Maybe I’m just here for the fall

Yes, if I should fall
Down from seventh floor
I’d lie there blood red in the white
Like a red rose grown
Amongst the lilies, alone
Like red wine on the dress of that bride
And sirens would ring
As the ambulance came
And drove me through the red traffic lights

And I say I won’t jump
Into this valley of white
No, I won’t but then maybe I might
Maybe I like the comedown
Maybe I’m just here for the fall
Maybe I’m just here for the fall
